Veri… what? VeriFactu!

It’s the Spanish Tax Agency’s system to make sure every invoice is authentic. Each invoice generates a record that can’t be altered, carries a QR code and, in VERI*FACTU mode, is sent to the AEAT instantly.

You don’t have to do anything: FacturaDirecta does it for you!

Scope

Who does VeriFactu affect?

Anyone who invoices with software and has their tax address in the common territory of Spain. Check your case:

It affects you if…

  • You are self-employed or have a company and invoice with invoicing software.
  • Your tax address is in the common territory, including the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla.
  • You make or sell invoicing software.

It doesn't affect you if…

  • You keep your VAT books with the SII (Immediate Supply of Information).
  • Your tax address is in the Basque Country or Navarre, which have their own systems.
  • You invoice by hand, without invoicing software.
Invoicing from the Basque Country? In Álava and Gipuzkoa TicketBAI applies, and in Bizkaia, Batuz. FacturaDirecta complies with both: find out more.

Each invoice carries a QR code your customer can use to check it on the AEAT website.

We answer your questions

Answers to the most common questions about VeriFactu and FacturaDirecta.

On 5 October 2026 the Spanish Ministry of Finance announced that it will postpone the obligation to October 2028, to coincide with mandatory e-invoicing. Until the new rule is published in the BOE, the official dates remain 1 January 2027 for companies and 1 July 2027 for everyone else.

Freelancers and companies that invoice with software, have their tax address in the common territory and don’t keep their VAT books with the SII. It also affects those who make or sell invoicing software.

They are different obligations. VeriFactu governs how your invoicing software works: records that cannot be altered, a QR code and, if you choose it, submission to the AEAT. Mandatory e-invoicing, from the Crea y Crece law, requires invoices between companies and freelancers to be exchanged in a structured electronic format. For most freelancers and SMEs, both will arrive in October 2028.

Yes. You can activate it in FacturaDirecta before it becomes mandatory and be fully used to it by then. Bear in mind that, once activated, it cannot be freely deactivated.

Not necessarily. You can sign with FacturaDirecta’s certificate, at no cost: you just grant FacturaDirecta power of attorney on the AEAT website, with your digital certificate or Cl@ve Móvil. If you prefer, you can also upload your own certificate. In NO VERI*FACTU it must belong to your company, a company seal or representative certificate with its NIF, or be your own if you’re self-employed. Your accountant’s certificate only works in VERI*FACTU, provided the AEAT accepts it. If you don’t have one like that, use FacturaDirecta’s.

There is no official list of approved software. Each manufacturer must publish a responsible declaration stating that its software complies with the regulation. FacturaDirecta’s is on our legal page.

No, once sent to the AEAT, final invoices cannot be modified or deleted. If they contain an error, a corrective invoice must be issued.

No. If you keep your VAT books with the SII, VeriFactu does not apply and it cannot be activated in FacturaDirecta. You can record the invoices you generate with your SII software in your accounts as external invoices.

Yes. The Anti-Fraud Law provides for fines of up to €50,000 per year for anyone using non-compliant or altered invoicing software, and up to €150,000 for anyone who makes or sells non-compliant software. Users can be fined once the obligation applies.
